Fabien Gabel will be the next Music Director of the Tonkünstler Orchestra beginning with the 2025/26 concert season.
This position will see Fabien Gabel bringing his dynamic style and eclectic repertoire to audiences in Vienna. Known for his attention to detail and his innovative programming, Fabien plans to expand the orchestra's reach by spotlighting both classical pieces and lesser-known composers of the 19th and 20th centuries. He also plans to focus on the works from the Second Viennese School and late Romanticism and Modernism eras closely tied to Vienna, as well as on French composers, thus highlighting the ties between Vienna and Paris.
FG: “I had the pleasure of conducting the Tonkünstler Orchester for the first time in 2019. I remember clearly being immediately enthralled by their magnificent sound and our instant alchemy. Austrian culture, its traditions and its avant-garde were essential during my years of apprenticeship as a young trumpet player and remain to this day a great source of inspiration in my work as a conductor. I am thrilled to begin this new chapter of my musical life.“
Come summer 2025, Fabien will direct five symphonic subscription programs per season and will lead the orchestra's music education initiatives and tours.
